A Cause for Celebration
So you may have noticed, we’ve been honoring a lot of “holidays” that have inundated July… there’s a national lollipop day, scotch day, and a host of other somewhat silly celebrations that pepper this month. However, one in particular stood out to us as it is a holiday we celebrate just about every day: Give Something Away Day.
Support Companies That Give Back
Visit our Giving Back page to learn a little more about the people we employ and the work they’ve accomplished outside of their workday. In addition, we’re proud to have partnered with organizations to provide donations of new and refurbished computers to further their missions in the communities they serve. In large part, Revive IT and ER2 have just been facilitators, as our customers who have worked with us throughout the year earn the ability to donate devices in their name.
A couple of other phrases also come to mind in this endeavor: “The digital divide.” “The technology gap.”
We didn’t invent these phrases, but they are literally at the core of our mission, our vision and literally everything we do. As Revive IT followers, we like to keep you informed through our blogs about tips, trends and the like, but candidly any tech company can do the same. What differentiates us has to be our “why.”
A Passion for Servanthood
We know that millions of people, children in particular, in lower income communities are at a disadvantage when it comes to being connected through technology. We’re encouraged to see that cities have recognized the need to expand public access to wifi, which is just the first step in leveling the playing field. In a 2015 report, there were still 44 million homes that did not have access to broadband, either because they couldn’t afford it, or they did not have service in their area. Those numbers have decreased since then, but are largely unchanged in lower income households.
Often, lower income households may have one device with internet connection, and it’s often a cell phone that provides that link. Where it leaves children who have needed to learn from home for the past year and a half is well behind where they should be. The pandemic only worsened this gap, as learning was entirely remote.
Yet even before 2020 sent everyone back home from work and school, Revive IT was in relationship with dozens of school districts across the country to help them get equipment and still meet a tight budget. For these schools, refurbished computers, or new devices procured through strategic partnerships at a reduced cost, were the answers they needed to keep their students competitive. In many ways, we’ve been preparing for 2020 and beyond, for almost as long as we’ve been a company.
Shopping with a Mission
Obviously, our customer relationships extend far beyond providing refurbished computers or a helpful blog. So, Revive IT and its sister company ER2 wants you to know what you’re getting into once you purchase a device from us online or in store.
It’s a guarantee that any refurbished computer was first in the hands of a team member who is a partner in providing computers and other devices to schools and health care systems across the nation. Even more important, they are partners in a business model that commits to give back to its community with service as well as products.
You also have a guarantee that you are helping in our mission to be responsible to our environment when you purchase a refurbished computer or other device. The most obvious way to keep a device from ending up in a landfill is to do what we can to refurbish and resell it if and whenever possible. When that’s not possible, we work under strict guidelines to ensure devices are safely and securely destroyed, and sent to partners who will also responsibly recycle the components.
So while you’re enjoying your device, and perhaps indulging in National Ice Cream Day or Hot Dog Day, know that you’ve been a very real part in honoring the spirit of Give Something Away Day. And we won’t wait until Thanksgiving to express our gratitude to you for doing so.
